really helpful, really chatty and fun, and no teen drama. : ) I just wanted to say a HUGE thankyou to Nick Yee as i am currently doing a dissertation on Wo W and have found his work extremely useful, esp the stuff that was published in Games and Culture, and it has in fact helped me to narrow down my research question. Rachael Morton I see over the past year or so there have been comments made by older/"old school" gamers regarding just how many of us are there in WOW. That's what a census is - when you collect data for 100% of the population.Good idea Toby, forming a guild or or joining a server that is populated by players that are older is a great idea. I agree with the people saying there needs to be a new update of this information. So if you like you can add me to your age stats :). It is amusing to sometimes hear a quest partner tell me that his Mom has told him it's time to go to bed.I know I'm certainly old enough to be the grandparent of many players...I find that players of a particular age group seem to naturally clump together and form a guild. actually, since i posted that comment i have found a really nice guild on the server i'm on.i have no idea of their age breakdowns, but everyone i've met so far and interacted with has been really great. To the people worried about bias in the results of the census data, it was described as "comprehensive Wo W census data" meaning every single Wo W player who played the game during the time of the census would've been included.Interesting, the age of us gamers, that the spread is so wide. How does one find players their age on the Wo W servers? Problem is, he has a job (he's an academic), a wife (me), and 2 kids (8 and 5).I know of one player that is just 6, and I do know some others, 65, 68, and for the record, I am 70. I'm a 56 Female and would absolutely love to play the game with people closer to my age. I have characters on Darkspear and Forgotten Coast (Alliance) and Bloodscalp for the Horde. However, I couldn't find the information I'm looking for. What are the demographics for players who are married with children? Greetings ; Ive been playing Wo W for almost 3 years now, and still enjoying it.
Format=SD Besides, it would be crazy if the women had to be on average 20-30 years older than the men to reach significance :) as an older gamer (40), i'm interested in the answer to Susan's question, too.I'm almost 56 y/o and self employed and play everyday at lunch or any other down time in the office. My son (27 y/o) and I group and have a ball together and I learn a lot from him, an ex-Evercrack player. That's good to hear, it's great for us "old-school" gamers to see family groups and so forth, our childhood dreams coming true :) The problem with analysing data like this is that it only comes from a biased sample i.e., the people willing to download a census/logging client. In other words, you're talking about people who are move "into" the game than perhaps your average player might be.In terms of Alliance / Horde ratio, the numbers match up pretty well. The survey data has a ratio of 1.7:1 (646 Alliance vs. From the survey data, the average age of the Wo W player is 28.3 (SD = 8.4). On average, they spend 22.7 (SD = 14.1) hours per week playing Wo W.There are no gender differences in hours played per week. This will give you a Z value which can be looked up on the internet or in any standard statistics book. ~Eric Betts [email protected] I would find it most interesting to see a break down by age and maybe by character type too.Yes, I read the blurb about the "grandmother who plays but,how old "is" she ...40's, 50's, 60's...? I'll start with the in-game demographics and make direct comparisons with census data from Warcraft from the same time period (June 2005). This kind of comparison with perfect comprehensive data has been mostly impossible with my past data sets, so I'm glad that this comparison can be made to anchor the other articles in this issue of the Daedalus Project.Remember that Wo W's strength as an MMORPG has always been it's market penetration, thanks to the massive publicity simply having the word "Warcraft" in the title gives it. I have a membership with Wo W and I am a 26 yr old female. The only people who have the numbers to be able to do a statistical analysis of Wo W players are Blizzard, and they aren't talking : P Nonetheless, it's nice to see the microcosm pattern, keep up the good work. It would be interesting to see if male players usually choose male toons.
